Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center Empowers New Environmental Leaders
Nonprofit Group Announces 2016 Regional Legacy Camp at Shield Ranch
Westcave Outdoor Discovery Center through the Children in Nature Collaborative of Austin (CiNCA) is partnering with the Children & Nature Network, El Ranchito Summer Camp, and the Shield Ranch to pilot a Regional Legacy Camp to help inspire and empower the next generation of environmental leaders in Austin. These Natural Leaders (18 -29 years of age) trained in Austin will be part of a larger nationwide peer network designed to help support young conservationists and will work with local CiNCA member organizations to effect social change in our community.
The Regional Legacy Camp, which serves as a centerpiece of the Natural Leaders Network, will take place March 14th – 18th of 2016 and is made possible by the support of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the Shield Ranch, and El Ranchito Summer Camp.
The Regional Legacy Camp will be held on the beautiful Shield Ranch in the Texas Hill Country just west of Austin. The camp will focus largely on developing leadership and outdoor skills, building relationships through the outdoor experience, and introducing the participants to local government and nonprofit leaders.
During the camp the Natural Leaders will develop action items that focus on connecting children to nature in our community. Working with CiNCA Member organizations, these young conservationists will complete their action items affecting positive social change and will gain experience at the same time. By investing in the next generation of environmental stewards, the Children in Nature Collaborative of Austin hopes to encourage the growth of our community’s young environmental leaders.
