Central Texas Water Coalition Hosts Texas Senate Candidate Forum
Texas State Senate District 24 candidates will have the opportunity to address a range of topics including water issues during an event sponsored by the Central Texas Water Coalition (CTWC) on Wednesday, January 20, 2016, from 6 to 8:15 p.m. at the Lakeway Activity Center (105 Cross Creek) in Lakeway, Texas. The evening will begin with a meet-and-greet reception with the candidates from 6 to 6:30 p.m., which will be immediately followed by the candidate forum.
All announced candidates have been invited and include: Dr. Dawn Buckingham of Lakeway, Jon Cobb of Lakeway, Ryan Downton of Temple, Susan King of Abilene, Virginia “Jennie Lou” Leeder of Llano, Dr. Brent Mayes of Fredericksburg, and Reed Williams of Burnet.
Incumbent District 24 State Sen. Troy Fraser, who is not seeking re-election, will be honored at the event.
“This is a critically important election to Central Texas and the Highland Lakes region,” said CTWC President Jo Karr Tedder. “In addition to our focus on water policy and management, the topics of the debate will cover a range of issues important to our area, including transportation, the economy, education, crime, public health and the environment.”
Area journalist Connie Swinney will moderate the forum. The format will include opening and closing statements from each candidate, with questions posed by Ms. Swinney in between. Members of the audience and the news media will be provided the opportunity to submit questions for consideration.
Refreshments will be available during the meet-and-greet reception.
