On April 9th, Dr. George Veni, Executive Director of the National Cave and Karst Research Institute, will “take us inside” the hollow hills of the Helotes Creek Valley. These caves are karstic, slowly dissolved in the limestone to serve as natural pipelines that feed water into the Edwards and parts of the Glen Rose aquifers.

Their space offers habitat for rare and endangered species found nowhere else on Earth. The minerals and materials they shelter hold the history of the areas past people, plants, animals, and climates. So we invite you to join us for a tour of this fascinating subterranean world for a rare view of the “inside story” of the region!

Though living for the past nine years in Carlsbad, New Mexico, Dr. Veni still considers Bexar County, “home.” He is the foremost authority on the caves and karst of the region, and is one of the world’s leading cave and karst experts.
